We are so excited to share a little bit of history with you : Bayberry candles are an American tradition.  When the first settlers arrived on our shores (yes, we're going there), everything was in short supply - including candles.  Generally candles were made with animal byproducts, which had obvious downsides, and in looking for alternatives, it didn't take long for the settlers to discover the abundant bayberry bush had berries that would give off a waxy residue when boiled.

Colonial women would save and collect the bayberry wax and taper the wax into candles.  This began a tradition of boiling the berries of the bayberry bush to enjoy the sweet smelling wax that would give a long clean burn.  Because 15 pounds of berries were required for one pound of wax, the bayberry candles were saved for special occasions.

To have a bayberry candle was a luxury and it was a tradition to burn the bayberry candle on Christmas or New Years Eve to bring blessings of abundance over your household.

Now that you've had your history lesson, let one of our Bayberry candles bring blessings (something we all need more of in 2020) and good scents to your home this holiday season.  This scent is earthy and light.  Tart berries and spicy nuances are awakened by notes of creamy woods and amber.  While you may choose to burn alongside your collard greens and black eyed peas as you ring in the new year, it is a great all around scent, perfect for year round burning.

This 16oz candle is hand poured using a proprietary soy wax blend and a wooden wick that creates a soft crackling sound when lit.  We are excited to feature each of our scents in a honeycomb glass vessel-- these are only available at the 2020 Girl Tribe Pop Up!

Birdie Candle Co. candles are handcrafted in small batches in North Carolina.  Each candle is completed with premium grade, phthalate-free fragrance oils and sustainably sourced wooden wicks.
